Obtaining Funds

To Transfer Funds Directly to Portugal

American Express:

TO SEND A MONEYGRAM - The person sending you a moneygram must go in person to his/her local American Express agent. If in doubt, the sender should call tel. 800-926-9400 for the address of his/her nearest agent. The sender should indicate the recipient’s name and the city in Portugal where the moneygram is to be sent. Cash, Visa, Master Card, Discover, and American Express are accepted. The Moneygram can be made out in euros or in U.S. dollar traveler’s checks.

TO RECEIVE A MONEYGRAM - The recipient should go to the designated American Express agent’s office with his/her passport to receive the funds within 30 to 45 minutes from the time the moneygram is sent from the U.S.

Western Union:

TO SEND A WIRE TRANSFER - The sender may go in person to their nearest Western Union Agent, or request the wire transfer by telephone by calling tel. 800-325-6000. The sender will need to know the recipient’s name and the name of the city in Portugal where the recipient is waiting to pick up the funds. The sender of the moneygram may pay with cash, Visa, or MasterCard. All money transfers to Portugal are made received in euros.

TO RECEIVE A WIRE TRANSFER - Western Union’s money wire transfers are received in Portugal by the Millennium BCP or CTT Correios de Portugal post offices. Ten to fifteen minutes after the sender has a confirmation of the money transfer, you may pick it up at the bank or the post office. As the recipient, you must bring your passport as proof of your identity as well as the transfer number from the Western Union in the U.S. in order to receive your funds. All Millennium BCP branches are open Monday - Friday from 8:30-15:00. CTT Correios de Portugal post offices are open Monday - Friday from 9.00-18.30.
