Nov. 14 - This year the U.S. Embassy joined again with the Associação Bandeira Azul (Blue Flag Association - ABAE/FEE) to promote both environmental awareness and the English language by sponsoring a special English language category in their annual “Young Reporters for the Environment” competition.
The winners in the categories of “Article in English” and “Picture Captions in English” are jointly selected by the Association and the U.S. Embassy from among the many high school students who submitted articles and photographs on environmental topics to ABAE.
At a special ceremony in Salvaterra de Magos on November 14, 2008, Assistant Public Affairs Officer Maryann McKay presented the 2008 awards to the top four in each category (writing/photography).
Over 150 students, teachers and special guests from the Portuguese government and other local institutions also took part in the event.
