Oct. 2 - On October 2, a group of eleven Fulbright U.S. Grantees visited the Chancery for an Embassy briefing. Charge d’Affaires, David Ballard welcomed the group, followed by remarks by the Political-Economic Counselor, Richard Reiter; the Consul General, Eugene Sweeney, and the Assistant Regional Security Officer, Rob Holbrook. Closing remarks were made by Public Affairs Officer, Abigail Dressel.
The group consisted of one U.S. Lecturer, five U.S. Students, and five English Teaching Assistants who will be in Portugal for the next three to nine months at the University of Lisbon, the Portuguese Cinemateca, the Gulbenkian Foundation, Catholic University, the Tile Museum, the University of Madeira, the University of Beira Interior, the University of Coimbra, and the University of Minho.
The Fulbright Program in Portugal celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2010. Having this prominent group located at such outstanding and diverse institutions throughout mainland Portugal and Madeira Island will further promote academic exchange between the United States and Portugal.
