Newark Boys Chorus Dazzles Portuguese High-School Students

Taking advantage of a target-of-opportunity concert tour of Spain and Portugal, the Embassy arranged for the Newark Boys Chorus School of Newark , New Jersey, to entertain a standing-room-only crowd of 150 teens at the Dom Pedro V High School on May 4, 2010. Immediately afterwards, the chorus also performed at the U.S. Embassy for employees.

Presenting a varied program of spirituals, jazz, and traditional songs from other countries where they have performed, the boys engaged both audiences in song and dance. Multiple encores attested to the enthusiasm of the audiences. At the high school, the youth audience begged for more songs and crowded around the youngsters at the end of the concert to shake their hands.
