American Music Journalist/Cultural Critic Greil Marcus in Lisbon

April 6 - The Office of Public Affairs of the American Embassy in Lisbon provided the keynote speaker for Portugal’s first “Poeticas do Rock” conference, organized by the Center for Theater Studies of the University of Lisbon, which took place April 6 to 8. Greil Marcus opened the conference with a presentation called “Digging up the ground: Bob Dylan on and off the page”.

Greil Marcus is an American author, music journalist and cultural critic. His work is known for treating rock music in a broader framework of culture and politics. A rock critic and columnist for Rolling Stone magazine and other publications, Prof. Marcus teaches graduate courses in American Studies at the University of California in Berkeley.
